Miners Dancing

Mark Tobey, Dancing Miners

They leave their feet

to jump out of the canvas

in tandem cubism

squares, and rectangles

of light dance in harmony,

the man’s beard, a shovel,

the woman’s mane, a waterfall

in splashes of blue.

Their hands intertwine

no rope to hold on--

like whistle punks with

steam, the light shines

from them in skeletal

radiance like two pickaxes

locked in combat.
